MIS Ship Design is a small size independent naval architecture firm based in Cairns, Queensland, Australia.

The company was formed in 2008, aiming to offer a general practice in Ship Design and specialized in Ship’s Stability to the marine community in Far North Queensland and the neighbouring country in the Pacific Region like Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Singapore and Philippines.

MIS Ship Design principal naval architect has 14 years experience in commercial marine industry both in design office and shipyards and has attained accreditation from Maritime Safety Queensland to help the Queensland marine industry in their commercial registration and survey requirements. Its accreditation authority number ASD 340 for the following categories;

  • Hull & Superstructure of vessel built of:
    • Steel
    • Aluminium
    • Fiberglass (FRP)
  • Machinery including propulsion & associated system
  • Stability including subdivision
  • Loadline
  • Safety Equipment

MIS Ship Design principal has also attained Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Marine Surveyor Accreditation Authority number 127332 for Initial Surveys on the following categories:

  • a – Plan Approval
  • b – Stability Approval
  • c – Loadline Assignment
  • g – Construction or Alteration – Hull, Deck & Superstructure
  • h – Construction or Alteration – Machinery
  • i – Construction or Alteration – Loadline condition & markings

MIS Ship Design implements a Quality Assurance based on AS/NZS ISO9001: 2008 and carries professional indemnity insurance as required by both Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) and Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) for Accredited Ship Designer and Marine Surveyor.

Naval Architecture is an art and science of designing ships, submarines and other floating structures. This design work includes hull form or lines; layout & appearance; all structural design & subdivision; passenger or cargo arrangements; machinery & piping system; electrical systems; steering & propulsion systems. A Naval Architect is a professional engineer who specialises in this complex and demanding design field.

Marine Engineering is involved in designing, testing and improving machinery, propulsion and equipment on ships. This offers a challenging responsibility in installation, operation and maintenance of machinery and associated equipments on ships.

Marine Surveying is the certification of the safety and suitability of a ship for its intended operation, generally an inspection to the ship seaworthiness. Other areas covered in marine surveying include construction supervision; pre-purchase & condition survey; damage survey; valuation survey; insurance survey.
